The Corporate team at Von Wobeser y Sierra lead by Claus Von Wobeser, Luis Burgueño, Fernando Carreño and Gloría Martínez successfully counseled Belgian brewer, Anheuser Busch InBev in the acquisition of the rest of Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo for 20.1 billion usd.

After over 3 years working on the Latin American and Iberian team at the Secretariat of ICC International Court of Arbitration, Victor leaves Paris to join our Arbitration practice. While at the ICC, Victor handled over 250 arbitrations, including a number of high-profile cases involving large corporations and state entities from Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. He also played an important role in the revision to the ICC Rules of Arbitration and was part of the team that implemented the rules within the Secretariat of the Court.

As of January 1, 2012, Andrés Nieto has been named Partner of Von Wobeser y Sierra, S.C. He will act as co-head of the Finance Practice Group of the Firm and continue with his general corporate, M&A, and arbitration practice.
 
Von Wobeser y Sierra, S.C. is pleased to announce the promotion of Andrés Nieto to partner. He is currently co-head of the Financial Law Practice and also does significant work in the areas of corporate, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, project finance, leveraged finance, debt restructuring, mining and arbitration.
 
Andrés Nieto graduated from the Escuela Libre de Derecho (cum laude), and completed a LL.M. Degree at Columbia Law School in New York. He worked at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP in New York City.
 
He has been the lead professor in the courses: Alternative Dispute Resolution and International Private Law at the Universidad Iberoamericana.

Von Wobeser y Sierra Obtains Favorable Award for Anheuser-Busch InBev

The Arbitration team of Von Wobeser y Sierra, S.C. led by Mr. Claus von Wobeser successfully represented AB-InBev in an arbitration subjected to Mexican Law which was brought by Grupo Modelo regarding the alleged breach of the Investment Agreement executed between the two companies.

Specifically, on July 9, 2010 the Arbitral Tribunal rendered its Final Award declaring that the acquisition of Anheuser-Busch by InBev did not breach any provision of the Investment Agreement. In addition, it was also declared in the Final Award that the claim of 2.5 billion dollars in damages brought by Grupo Modelo against InBev lacked any merits. 

AB-InBev was also represented in this case by the US Law firms Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP. and Sullivan & Cromwell, LLP.
