In April 2016, the European Parliament adopted the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) which became effective on May 4th of that same year and is mandatory as of May 25^th, 2018 for the European Union (“EU”) member states and for third parties that use the personal data of European citizens.

On May 23^rd, 2018, the “Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans Pacific Partnership”, better known as TPP-11 or CPTPP, was published in the Official Federal Gazette, as well as two Side Agreements to the TPP-11 signed by Mexico with Vietnam related to the textile sector; a Side Agreement signed with Malaysia with respect to the rule of origin that will apply in the production of certain vehicles; and a Side Agreement with Australia regarding investment protection.

Today, March 8th, 2018, the “Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific partnership”, better known as TPP-11 or CPTPP, was signed in Chile, with the participation of Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Malaysia, Japan, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam and Mexico. The agreement is signed just as the government of the United States is announcing that it will impose tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum.

On March 1st, 2018, the Chamber of Deputies approved a Decree (“Decree”) issuing the Financial Technology Institutions Act and amending and repealing various provisions of the Credit Institutions Act, the Securities Market Act and other related regulations ("Act" or "FinTech Act").. In accordance with said Decree, the FinTech Act has been sent to the Federal Executive for its promulgation and publication in the Federal Official Gazette.

On February 8th, 2018, the Federal Electricity Commission published the terms of bid number CFE-0036- CASOA-0001- 2018 for the design, construction, equipping, installation, operation and maintenance of the first direct current transmission line in Mexico.

On February 10th, 2014, section A of article 102 of the Mexican Constitution was amended in order to transform the Procuraduría General de la República (Attorney General's Office) into an independent public entity called Fiscalía General de la República ("FGR"). Unfortunately, after almost 4 years, it hasn't yet come into force.
